The longer the game, the more they suffer.
Dennis and Dee in Paddy's Pub: the worst bar in Philadelphia, kill me. The way they are so obsessed with being upper class. "We're surrounded by idiots." The fact that they always think they're so competent together and so above everybody else. The way they always pair together whenever the gang is dealing with class issues because they believe the only one of their level is each other. Dennis laughing at Dee's jokes and kind of defending her to the writer. Just gah, Dennis and Dee.
You’re so right, Anon. SO. RIGHT. It’s been forever since I’ve seen that episode (I’m not there yet in my rewatch) so I’m not able to discuss it in any specific way, but I have always had such a strong impression of the two of them being like that.
When I started writing up some general commentary just sort of summarizing as best I could what their relationship was like and what their dynamic with the rest of the gang was like, one of the first things I found myself mentioning was how highly they regard each other, especially in comparison with Mac and Charlie - Mac and Charlie are stupid and delusional and Mac and Charlie are poor and Mac and Charlie are white trash, and Dennis and Dee are upper class and have tertiary education and social common sense - that’s how they see it. Whenever those lines are drawn you always see Dennis and Dee holding themselves apart as better and finer.
And I’m so here for that.
That’s on display best in “Paddy’s Pub: The Worst Bar In Philadelphia”, but you see it all the time. Especially this idea of them forming a competent team. Like they argue a lot in “Charlie Got Molested” when they’re teaming up to tackle Charlie’s psychological issues, but they enjoy it as intellectual debate and ultimately they end up toasting each other, and then it’s basically the same in “Mac Is A Serial Killer”. And lots of other times, of course.
Dennis and Dee being twins. Dennis and Dee thinking they’re better than everyone else. Dennis and Dee thinking no one is worthy except for each other.
DENNIS AND DEE.
Do you ever have "conversations" with your followers about certain ships??
Sorry, Anon. I’ve never been much for roleplaying, if that’s what you mean. I’ve just never been able to get into it, though I can understand its appeal, of course. I’d be happy to do whatever I could to help you find someone to rp with, though.
But if you mean just discussing ships, then yeah, I do that all the time. Email or chatting or whatever is easiest. Though the message/answer system works well because I like to have an commentary that might come up available on the blog for others to look at, though it makes it difficult to maintain a thread. (And of course there’s the fact that sometimes I disappear for a day or two…or three.)
I hope I’ve understood you right!
